Sermon Notes

“SEVEN (7) PROMISED BLESSINGS!”

Deuteronomy 28:1-11

Introduction

Last week, we presented “The King’s Five(5)-Point Plan for Me.”  The third point of the five-point plan is: The King’s plan for me is triggered by obedience.  Today, we will provide an expanded and more detailed description of the third point.  Based upon Deuteronomy 28:1-11, The King’s citizens have missed many of the plan’s main points.

Today, we will identify the missed points and why some, if not most, of The King’s citizens are not experiencing The King’s desired plan.

  1. 1.    the Lord wants to bless his people.

v. 1. In verse 1, a conditional statement is followed by a promise: If Israel obeys the commandments of God, then blessings will follow. That’s God’s conditional promise.

  1. 2.             the blessing of god would extend to every aspect of his people’s lives.

vv. 2-6. The blessings are represented as actual powers which follow the footsteps

of God’s obedient people and will overtake them.

  1. 3.             The lord will attack and defeat any enemy of his people who threaten his people’s peaceful and blessed existence.

v. 7.  The security granted by God against external threats is stated to emphasize

the reality of God’s blessing within the community.

  1. 4.             the lord will bless both his people and his people’s supply chain.

v. 8.  At this juncture, Israel was without land; but God’s blessings are not constrained by the current reality.

  1. 5.             the lord will make his people holy, if and only if they keep his commandments and walk in his ways.

v. 9.  Obedience is the difference maker! Check out vv.7:6 and 26:19.

  1. 6.             The lord’s blessing will cause other nations to revere his obedient people.

v. 10.  As the Name of The Lord is proclaimed over His people, the exaltation of

His people would be a result of God’s blessing, not human merit.

  1. 7.             the lord’s blessing will cause his people to have excess prosperity.

v. 11.  God, in His goodness, would cause His obedient people to experience

more than enough prosperity. Check out v.4 and Ephesians 3:20.
